Several things need to be considered as local business owners work at getting their small business online. One of those is getting local business listings and backlinks to their site so people can find your business in multiple ways.

In this article we will go over 4 ways to get local business listings and backlinks to increase your exposure online and drive more visitors to your small business website.

1. Google Local also known as Google Maps. Google is the largest search engine in the world and to be found locally you want to show up at the in their results on Local.Google.com.

This is not hard to do yet it is amazing how many small businesses do not take the time to do it. It’s important to be specific when placing your listing so they include keywords that you would like to be ranked for.

Google Local brings up targeted results by region and this is your chance to show up on Google Maps at the top of a targeted search phrase. Right now the service is free so it’s worth getting a listing with them.

2. Online Yellow Pages. YellowBook, Dex, and others are a good way to get listed on the internet in yellow pages. Yellow pages are not used much anymore, but an online listing can get you some high quality backlinks.

3. Social Networks. Yelp is a good place to start on social networking for local businesses. Wikipedia says “Yelp, Inc. is a Web 2.0 company that operates a social networking, user review, and local search web site of the same name. Over 25 million people access Yelp’s website each month, putting it in the top 150 of U.S. Internet web sites.

4. Backlinks from high traffic websites. You can purchase a high quality link from services such as TextBrokers which will increase the worth of your own site in the eyes of Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other search engines.

You can also create a resource directory and do link exchanges with other relevant local businesses owners. You can also work at getting backlinks via blogging, social media such as video marketing, posting in discussion forums, article marketing, and so forth.

Your goal very simple with local business listings is just like any type of advertising that you do. You are trying to place your website in places where people can find it. It only stands to reason that the more listings you have the more potential traffic your website will get.

This is why working on backlinks is another important strategy. Search engine such as Yahoo Bing and Google rank sites higher based on the quality of the backlinks  they have as well as quantity.

OK just to cover up all of this in summury all of the 4 ways to get local business to business listings and backlinks. This should be part of an ongoing Internet marketing strategy you have for your local small business.

Twitter Status update today wrote a new blog entry saying stating that there has been a bug injected into their system in other words a virus, trojan, spam.

Altough others are saying twitter resets follow list to zero because of auto follow bug. But what really happen is Gizmodo found the way to automatically add anyone as your friend, so for example if i want to have Ashton Kutcher as my friend i can do that simply by typing “accept [username]” into the Twitter Web interface, you could turn anyone into your Twitter follower.

Right after that has been exposed users all around began adding celebrity twitter accounts into their followers as friends. People like late night show host Conan O’Brien has stated he will only follow one person, immediately began following hundreds of profiles.

So when twitter coughs up with the problem they decided to reset everyone’s follow lists to zero to prevent spammy followers and confirmed that it was working on a fix.

Here is what Twitter;s status blog says:

We identified and resolved a bug that permitted a user to “force” other users to follow them. We’re now working to rollback all abuse of the bug that took place. Follower/following numbers are currently at 0; we’re aware and this too should shortly be resolved.
Update (10:18 AM PST): Of note: protected updates did not become public as a result of this bug.

Many stressed out users are booming twitter and at rage when it become clear to them that all of their hard work adding those followers are gone, all twitter marketers and twitter software product developers as well all so called Money Making with Twitter are under a big risk. If twitter will not resolve this issue and all followers as well followed list will be lost that only can mean one thing.

Marketers will loose their daily bread and butter wich is traffic to their crapy websites

Developers will have their projects at risk because if there are no twitter who needs their programs to market on twitter.

And last but not least every single member that are part of Twitter affiliate networks will crawl back to facebook Advertising or marketing:)

I would not be surprised if this whole chaos was done by facebook affiliate network gurus to attract large amount of new marketers sign ups.

Anyway time will tell what is going to happen with our highly followed accounts and im sure that are many hoping for the best at the mean while many of you learned a lesson that is you loose all when you put all of your marketing eggs in one basket.  This loss of followers may cost for twitter dearly.
